Memorial Tree Planting at the Farm

This weekend was a special weekend at Ed's family apple orchard/farm. Family gathered to initiate a garden/grove that will be a place to remember loved ones who are no longer with us. His aunt Brigitte, who lived in Germany, passed away on January 22nd. Her daughter, Ed's cousin Silvia, and her husband Kevin where here for a visit, and a small family gathering was held to plant the first trees in honor of Brigitte.

The girls approved of the benches that will be placed in the sitting area:)
The sitting area is the former garage of the original homestead...the garage appears to have been built in 1932.
A view of the apple orchard from the sitting area.
Walking from the current farmhouse to the site of the memorial garden.
A view of the area where the tree garden will be. The big old tree on the right will be taken down. Trees were planted in the front of the picture and the sitting area is behind the big pine tree.
Planting the first tree in memory of Brigitte. Everyone got a turn to dig and special prayers and poems were read. It was really nice.
Silvia helping dig.
Kevin helping dig.
The girls visiting with Ashes the farm cat.
The girls with Grandma and Grandpa in front of our newly planted flowering bush.
A worm!
A picture of everyone who was there.
Cousin Allis getting a ride back to the farmhouse.
And a last picture of some planting, out of order because I still can't figure out how to move things around.
It was a very special day and the start of an ongoing Memorial Tree Garden at the farm. It was great to have Silvia and Kevin here as part of the day.

How fun to have an orchard to go to! And I love the idea of the memorial garden too. What a great idea. :)
Love the pics!
