July was full of exciting action at our place this year. We have been wanting to fill in a little pond that sits on the side of the house, since we moved in. It was dug out by previous owners and is often times a muck hole that serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes...we don't need anymore of those around here. So after the painful process of permit application and approval...Operation Pond Fill-In began.
We are SO very fortunate that our contractor was my dad:)
He used his dump truck to bring in load after load of dirt.
The kids would hear the truck coming down the road and run outside to watch each load get dumped.
Then we'd grab a chair and watch as my dad used his backhoe to push the dirt into place.
Between loads Sam would use his little excavator to scoop and dump loads of dirt into his dump truck:)
The whole process was pretty exciting to watch and provided SO much entertainment for the kids.
In the evenings we would go into frog rescue mode.
We rescued as many frogs and tadpoles as we could get our hands on and relocated them to a pond across the road.
The pond is now completely filled! We will have to let it sit over winter and wait to see if a few more loads of dirt will be needed to keep the area from getting standing water again...time will tell.
Thanks so much Dad for all of your help and for providing so much entertainment for the kids!

Are the kids sad that they can't put a canoe in the pond anymore or did the excitement of the trucks distract them? ;)
Very exciting stuff! I would have filled it in too. Having water around the backyard would have made me nervous with my kids (we filled in a big old nasty inground pool when we moved into our house). But I'm a worrier.
Love that you saved the frogs! :)
Wow! That was an exciting day! How many loads of dirt did it take? How far did he have to go to get it? LOL
